Spicy African Chicken with Berberé

Based on an Ethiopian classic, this recipe, which features our Berbere Spice Blend, is full of flavour but not for those with a faint heart for heat!

Full of earthy flavours and and a hot chili glow this chicken dish offers something exotic and simple for your plate and palate.


  • 2lb Chicken breast cut into 1" cubes
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1 medium bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 clove of garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • ½ Cup of chicken stock or water
  • 2 tbsp Berbere Spice Blend
  • Handful of fresh, chopped coriander
  • 6 Cups of cooked rice


Sauté onion in olive oil until soft

Add chicken and lightly fry until goldden

Reduce heat and add 2 tablespoons of Berbere, bell pepper and garlic and stir

Add tomato paste and gently simmer for 35-45 minutes.

Serve over rice with coriander as a garnish
